Airlines and Cargo segmentations
I was wondering how is the number of passengers/weight of a cargo, is the ratio dependant to a airlines segment or a particular airline or does it depend on the sector? I am thinking specifically about LCC vs full-service.
A:
When looking at the number of passengers per flight, the airline is often a very strong confounding factor.
For example, Southwest flies several routes but only to a few airports, so if all routes are considered, the number of flights at an airport might be much higher than it would have been if each route was considered individually.
So, rather than looking at the raw numbers, you might want to look at the number of flights at a particular airport (for example, the average number of flights at each airport on one particular route).
If the ratio of passengers vs. cargo is roughly the same across the airlines, then it is a more or less fair comparison.
Similarly, if the ratio of passengers vs. cargo is significantly different between two airlines, then it would suggest that there is some bias in the way they treat passengers vs. cargo.
How much would you be willing to pay for your seat on a long-haul flight? Should it be marked with your seat number, or should you just be given a seat when you board?
That's a question that currently has no answer in the UK. An amendment to the Civil Aviation (Inflight Services) Regulations (FSS) 2016 came into force on July 9, 2018, giving passengers the power to choose whether they want a seat assigned to them when they book, or whether they are prepared to just turn up when they board.
It's an extremely controversial topic, with online commenters across the world already gearing up for battle.
Here's what we know so far.
What's different about this amendment?
A growing number of airlines in the UK now offer "open seating" – or "no ticket needed" – where you get to decide whether you want to sit in a specific seat on the flight, or if you just want to turn up, scan your ticket and be seated when your flight boards.
The new rules will apply to flights departing from the UK and to non-domestic routes within the UK. They won't apply to flights between the UK and
